Week 2 Announcements

Relay For Life

The annual 24 hour Relay for Life event is this coming weekend! Join PUSH in fighting cancer on April 14-15 from 10am-10am at RIMAC field. There will be games and events all day long! Our cancer this year is Prostate Cancer. We will also be facilitating one of the awesome games that day too! So come join us to find out what it is! :)

WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15

WHERE: UCSD RIMAC field
Register/donate online today here. Our donation goal is $100. Online registration is only $10, and this gives you a wristband to provide you access to the field. Day-of registration costs $15.

PUSH Board Application 2012-2013

 It’s that time of the year for electing new board members! Being a part of PUSH board is a great opportunity to work with other PUSH-ers while improving leadership skills, interpersonal relations, and communication skills, which are all vital for success as a health professional student, so start now while you can!
Just a reminder: you must attend 1 PUSH event in the 2011-2012 year to apply and/or vote.
We will have applications released shortly! Also, if you are interested, you can start attending our open board meetings during Week 4-6 to get a behind-the-scenes look on how we operate. :) Stay tuned for more information to come!

Week 3 GBM: Health Awareness

We’ve missed you all so please come to our first GBM of the quarter about health awareness! We have much in store for the rest of this year, including upcoming board elections. So come by to find out more information! Also, get your PUSH apparel if you didn’t get a chance to last quarter :) It costs $15 and they come in small, medium, and large! We have a limited quantity so get yours before it’s gone.

If you can’t make it to GBM, don’t worry… we will be having a social at Yogurt World after! So stop by and hang out with board and fellow PUSH-ers!

Health Professional School Fair

Meet with representatives from medical, dental, pharmacy, public health, optometry, physical therapy, nursing, veterinary and other health professional schools, both foreign and domestic.  Learn more about the schools and what it takes to be admitted.  Co-sponsored by UCSD’s Health & Medical Professions Preparation Program.  UCLA School of Medicine, UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy, UCSF School of Pharmacy and School of Dental, USC Physician Assistant Program and more are scheduled to attend!

Western University of Health Sciences Preview Day

WesternU has 22 different science and health graduate programs including osteopathic medicine, optometry, dentistry, podiatric medicine, veterinary medicine, nursing and more! Come learn about all the opportunities WesternU has to offer. Preview Day will provide information specific to your program of interest and chance to have a tour of the campus.

UC Berkeley Minorities in Health Conference

When: Saturday, April 7th 2012 at UC Berkeley
Time: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

During the first weekend of spring quarter, join us on a mini weekend road trip to Nor-cal! We will be attending the FREE MIH Conference at UC Berkeley, featuring various workshops, Q&A panels, and a networking fair! It’ll be a great opportunity to bond with your fellow PUSH members while exploring Berkeley and different health career options!

Carpools will be provided! However, there will be a non-refundable fee of $50 to cover lodging and transportation. We will have afternoon and evening departure times on Friday, April 6 and return on Sunday, April 8.

It’s that time of the quarter again…CRUNCH TIME! Join us in our end of the quarter STUDY JAM– we’ll provide the space, just bring your books, notes, and some study snacks. Get your study on with your favorite PUSH-ers! Food and drinks will be provided :)

Week 7 Updates

Week 8 GBM: Health Panel

This upcoming GBM will feature a health panel, so come hear REAL success stories from the health professional students themselves, including PUSH alumni! They will be sharing their experiences on how they made it to where they are today. If you are thinking about pursuing a career in health, this is a great opportunity for you to get your questions answered in a more intimate setting. You definitely do not want to miss out!

Food and drinks will be provided.
All you have to bring is yourself and your questions!

Medical School: What Applicants for 2013 Admission Need To Know

The UCSD Career Services Center is offering a seminar on what you need to know to apply for medical school. Find out from the experts how the admission process works, how to prepare your application, how schools select you and how you can choose schools.  Learn about the different services to help you get an edge in the process.

Week 5 GBM: A Look Into The CCE Program

What is CCE? Ths week’s GBM will feature a guest speaker from the Clinical Career Extender (CCE) internship to discuss the program and how you can get involved.Learn more about this great opportunity to boost your undergraduate experience!

Social: Ice Skating at UTC

 ICE ICE BABY! Wanna break the ice with your favorite PUSH family? Join PUSH for our ice skating social!

Come mingle with fellow members and get to know PUSH board. And if you aren’t pro at ice skating, don’t be shy! You don’t need to know how to skate well… we are all bound to fall and it would be a good “ice breaker” to learn more about PUSH.

SDSU Catch The Wave To Success: Pre-Professional Health Conference

Catch the Wave to Success Pre-professional Health Conference gives students the opportunity to attend over 30 workshops, meet professional school admissions representatives, learn about different volunteer organizations to get involved, hear first hand accounts from practicing health care providers, and network with current health professionals as well as other pre-professional students.

**Registration fee includes admission to the conference, two meals, a t-shirt, and resource materials.

When: Saturday, February 25th from 10 AM to 6:40 PM

HCC Paid Summer Healthcare Internship Program

Health Career Connection’s comprehensive summer internship program provides hands on exposure, experience and mentoring. This educational internship assists undergraduate students and recent graduates to pursue careers in public health, health policy and management, health education, community health, nursing administration, pre-medicine, health information technology and environmental health.

HCC also partners with leading graduate health professions schools to provide regional intern cohorts with professional development workshops and information about how to best prepare and be competitive applicants for graduate education.  We have a strong focus on students of color and aim to increase the ethnic diversity of health leaders.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Haunted Trail social! I hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween! :)

1. Light the Night Walk

Our main event this week is LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK on Friday! If you had fun at the Breast Cancer walk, then join PUSH in giving back to a good cause! This walk is to help raise awareness and funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as they work to find a cure for blood cancers. Walk with us and/or donate if you can!

 

Also, after the walk, join us for dinner at TGIF to support another PUSH fundraiser! :)

2. TGIF Fundraiser

Please support PUSH’s next fundraiser at TGIF in La Jolla. 20% of the proceeds will go towards PUSH when you present this flyer with your purchase (see e-mail attachment). Just print the flyer and use it for you and your friends! If you plan to attend the Light the Night Walk or want to eat with PUSH, we will all be heading over to TGIF together after the walk!

3. UCI PUSO’s 13th Annual Pre-Health Conference

PUSO at UC Irvine is the Pilipino Pre-health Undergraduate Student Organization. We will be making a trip to their 13th annual Pre-Health Conference this year! There will be workshops, representatives and guest speakers from several graduate and professional schools for students to chat with!

Visitation Day at Postbacc Program at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) of the Claremont Colleges in Los Angeles!

 

This is a great opportunity to get insight into the postbacc program and meet and hear from someone who helped make PUSH start in the first place! A PUSH Alumna and Co-Founder, Kathleen Coquia, will be one of the panel members.
